The Jewish Federation instituted a program 19 years ago to provide quality backpacks filled with school supplies at the beginning of the school year to Volusia & Flagler County school children in elementary, middle, and high school via the school’s counselors. That is over 81,000 backpacks filled with school supplies distributed to date!
As we neared the start of the 2015 school year, we were in danger for the first time ever of NOT having enough funds to provide the backpacks like we have in previous years. But thanks to our community and the generous offer of two local philanthropists, we made it!
Every child identified by the area counselors in need of backpacks and supplies will be granted their request. We hope to help at least 7,000 kids in Volusia & Flagler Counties. We thank the two people who sponsored the match that brought us over the finish line- Ron Shapiro and David Holland’s Trust fund in memory of Mr. Krupa who loved children along with those of you in the community who gave!
Florida Memorial Hospital gave us a mountain of school supplies and these were donated to children in need who go to local private schools. This project is very time consuming, but the results are so meaningful. Disadvantaged children picked by the counselors who best know who is in need will have the proper tools to do well in school. Thank you all who donated. This was a great mitzvah!
