School Supply Project

Over the past 21 years, the Jewish Federation of Volusia & Flagler Counties has distributed more than 95,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to economically disadvantaged children in Volusia and Flagler Counties, regardless of their race or religion.

The Federation distributes 7,000 quality backpacks each summer before the start of school and these are filled with age-appropriate school supplies for students in 80 elementary, middle and high schools. These backpacks allow the children to arrive on the first day of school ready to learn, excel academically and – just as importantly – fit in with their peers.

These children are identified by their school counselors as having the greatest need. They include some of the estimated 2,200 homeless students who attend Volusia County schools and Title 1 students who receive free and reduced-price lunches. Each backpack with school supplies retails for $80 each, but the Federation gets them at a wholesale price of $25 a piece.

Please donate today. One hundred percent of your donation will be used to buy school supplies because the Federation pays for all administrative costs. And this year, the Federation received a $15,000 matching grant, so your donation will automatically double and buy twice as many backpacks.

Please send your tax-deductible contribution to School Supply Kits, 470 Andalusia Ave., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Or for more information, call the Federation at 386-672-0294.
